Chop Chop Stone Tree — How to Cut It & Stone Wood Uses

✔ Last checked: 2026-08-12

The stone tree mystery is largely solved, and the answer is funnier than the theories. You don’t need a mighty axe to fell a stone tree — you need to fix a windmill, receive a pair of clogs that let you walk on water, and stroll to an island with pink leaves. The stone wood you get there is what makes a better axe possible.

Updated for the release build (day 5). Big upgrade from our pre-launch page: the route and the stone wood payoff are now documented. Quantities and yields still aren’t, and we’re not inventing them.

The route, in order

This is the sequence multiple independent release-build guides describe, and it matches the game’s own dependency chain:

  1. Finish the tutorial bridge. It looks like scenery. It is actually the first link in the tool chain.
  2. Repair the windmill. This is what hands you the water-walking clogs. Yes, the traversal upgrade in this game is footwear. No, nobody has explained the physics.
  3. Walk across the water to the island with the pink-leaf tree. Foliage colour is the reliable visual cue — ordinary trees won’t satisfy the recipe.
  4. Chop it for stone wood.
  5. Upgrade the grindstone with the stone wood, which makes the stone axe craftable.
  6. Take the stone axe to the tunnel near the entrance and hit the door. It breaks open into the secret dev room — the developers confirmed this space exists by patching a faulty QR code out of it in hotfix #4.

The pre-launch version of this page pointed east across a bridge toward a rocky “mystic cave.” That was demo-era geography. Release guides still reference a stone tree cave area (complete with a hollow mushroom), so the cave likely persists — but the windmill-and-clogs route is the one that actually unlocks progression, and that’s what we’d follow first.

What stone wood is actually for

Its confirmed job is tool progression, not furniture: stone wood → grindstone upgrade → stone axe → better chopping and one hidden door. That reframes the whole resource. Pre-launch, everyone assumed stone wood was a high-value order material. It’s really a key.

Special wood does feed orders too, and the demo’s notorious 8-stone-tree order was real — but with the release build’s larger economy, we can’t yet confirm that specific order survived in the same shape.

Metal and electric trees

Metal is in. We can state that with confidence for an unglamorous reason: official hotfix #4 reduced the Metal Ingot recipe from two metal wood to one. Developers do not rebalance recipes for resources that don’t exist. So metal wood is real, it’s craftable-with, and as of August 11 it’s cheaper than it was.

Electric trees finally have a job. Multiple release-build guides describe Electric Wood as the bulk ingredient in the battery recipe, crafted at the Electronics Press. That’s the answer we’d been missing since before launch — full chain on the battery page. We mark it 🟡 rather than ✅ because no official note names Electric Wood yet.

There’s also a gold tree tier above these, whose Gold Wood feeds one of the mysterious well rituals. Players report it respawns, but the timer is unconfirmed.

The lore question

Why do trees made of stone exist? The official answer is still “nobody knows, chop first.” What we’ve learned in five days is that the mystery is load-bearing for progression, not just flavour — the weird trees are the tech tree. FAQ

Where is the stone tree in Chop Chop Inc.?

On an island you reach by walking on water. Repair the windmill to earn the water-walking clogs, then cross to the island with the distinctive pink-leaf tree — that's the stone tree. This route is consistently described by multiple independent release-build guides.

What is stone wood for?

Its headline job is unlocking the stone axe: you feed stone wood into a grindstone upgrade, which makes the stone axe craftable. The stone axe in turn opens a hidden tunnel door leading to the secret dev room.

Do I need a special axe to chop stone trees?

No — the dependency runs the other way. You don't need a better axe to get stone wood; you need stone wood to get a better axe. This was our biggest open question before launch and it resolved backwards from what SEO guides claimed.

Are metal and electric trees in the released game?

Metal is confirmed — an official hotfix note changed the Metal Ingot recipe to cost one metal wood, so metal wood is a real, craftable-with resource. Electric trees are also real — release-build guides describe Electric Wood as the main ingredient in batteries, crafted at the Electronics Press.
