Chop Chop Inc. Beginner Guide — First Hours in the Released Game

✔ Last checked: 2026-08-15

The whole game is a loop — chop, process, craft, sell, reinvest — wrapped around one early progression chain and guarded by one genuinely dangerous button. This guide is written against the released build, a week and nine hotfixes in.

⚠️ Before your first session: update the game (nine hotfixes since launch), and burn this into your memory — New Game overwrites your only save with no confirmation. Use Load. Every time. Full warning here.

The loop, concretely

Step What you do Where the money hides
1. Chop Fell anything that “looks even remotely choppable” Bigger and rarer trees
2. Process Saw logs into planks Processed beats raw
3. Craft Build furniture from blueprints Full sets grant bonus payouts
4. Sell Ship to the nearby city New customers as the city grows
5. Reinvest Machines, axes, upgrades Compounding, baby

The early progression chain (do this in order)

The single most useful thing we learned post-launch is that the early game has a real dependency chain, and a lot of players stall because they don’t see it:

  1. Finish the tutorial bridge. It reads as scenery. It’s the first link.
  2. Repair the windmill. This grants the water-walking clogs.
  3. Walk to the pink-leaf island. That distinctive foliage is your stone tree.
  4. Chop stone wood, upgrade the grindstone, craft the stone axe. Note the direction — you don’t need a good axe to get stone wood; you need stone wood to get a good axe.
  5. Take the stone axe to the tunnel near the entrance and hit the door. That’s the secret dev room, and an achievement.

If you feel blocked in the first few hours, you are almost certainly missing a step on this list rather than lacking resources.

Nine tips for the released build

  1. Use Load, not New Game. Yes, this is tip one and tip zero. People have lost 20-hour runs.
  2. Chase furniture sets, not one-off chairs. Set bonuses are official and remain the biggest early-money lever. See furniture orders.
  3. Never sell one-of-a-kind items. Missions can become uncompletable. The release build has more uniques than the demo.
  4. Upgrade your body, not just your tools. Strength and stamina come from exercise equipment. The weight bench works and the devs still won’t explain the science.
  5. Don’t over-invest in cooking. Meals do buff stats, but released-game reviewers consistently report the effect is small. Cook opportunistically; don’t build your run around it.
  6. The garden is not an economy. Reviewers report its practical use is mostly fish bait. Manage expectations accordingly.
  7. Keep the quest log open when delivering. The cannon and drone UI doesn’t indicate which container an order wants.
  8. Expect to scroll. 100+ recipes with no search or sort. Learn where your staples sit.
  9. Look around properly. Seven ducks, a secret base, treasure chests, Furnox spies and mountains you’re not supposed to climb — which the community treats as a personal challenge. Exploration is where reviewers say the game is at its best.

What to expect from the shape of the run

Reviews converge hard on one pattern: excellent early and mid game, thinner late game. The first ten hours are widely described as unexpectedly absorbing — one reviewer said the game “kidnapped” them for eleven hours in a single sitting. The last stretch leans on volume missions and automation that doesn’t scale as far as factory-sim fans expect.

Plan for roughly 10–17 hours, enjoy the front half without rushing it, and treat 100% completion as optional rather than the point.

FAQ

What should I do first in Chop Chop Inc.?

Before anything else, learn to never touch New Game on the main menu — it overwrites your only save without asking. Then run the loop: chop, saw logs into planks, craft furniture, sell it to the city, reinvest.

What is the main progression chain early on?

Finish the tutorial bridge, repair the windmill for the water-walking clogs, cross to the pink-leaf island for stone wood, upgrade the grindstone, and craft the stone axe. That chain gates a lot of the game, including the secret base.

How long is Chop Chop Inc.?

Players report 10 to 17 hours, with roughly 11 to 15 for the story and the upper end covering achievements and secrets. There are 21 Steam achievements.

What is the biggest beginner mistake?

Two. Clicking New Game instead of Load, which destroys your save. And selling one-of-a-kind items, which can block missions. Neither has a confirmation prompt to save you.
