Chop Chop Inc Auto Harvester Guide: Setup & Optimization

✔ Last checked: 2026-08-30

Manual chopping gets you through the first hours of Chop Chop Inc, but the moment furniture orders start asking for dozens of planks, your axe arm becomes the bottleneck. The fix is the game’s automated logging pair: the Auto Tree Chopper, which regrows and fells trees on a loop, and the Auto Harvester 3000, which converts stumps into trunks in batches. Together they form a hands-free wood supply that got twice as fast in Hotfix #4. Here is how to unlock them, run them, and keep the downstream line from jamming.

Unlocking the Harvester Line

Automation machines in Chop Chop Inc are built from the Work Hall, and the Work Hall itself requires your base to be finished first. So the real unlock path is: gather materials, complete the base build, construct the Work Hall beside the house, and then the machine menu — harvesters included — opens up. If you cannot find the build option, you are almost certainly missing one of those two structures, not the recipe. (For the full roster behind that menu, see the machines list and unlock order.)

Budget wood generously before you start. The base and Work Hall consume large amounts of beams and planks, and you will still be cutting those by hand at the sawhorse. Treat the construction grind as your last manual chopping marathon.

How the Auto Tree Chopper Works

The Auto Tree Chopper is a set-and-forget loop:

  1. Insert a tree recipe into the machine (the wood type you want it to farm).
  2. The machine plants and fells that tree automatically.
  3. The tree respawns on a ~90-second timer — reduced to that value in a patch — and the machine re-chops it without further input.

Two details make this stronger than it sounds:

  • You only pay once. The recipe cost applies at setup, or when you switch the machine to a different tree type. The respawn loop itself consumes nothing.
  • It never sleeps. As long as the recipe stays loaded, logs keep arriving whether you are building, questing, or exploring the far side of the map.

Start the loop on your bulk wood (birch is the early workhorse; apple wood feeds your starter furniture recipes) and only switch recipes when an order demands a specialty type. Constant switching wastes the setup cost and resets your rhythm (verify in-game whether switch cost scales by tree tier). Remember the one-tree-type limit — you cannot run two wood types in parallel, so sequence rather than fight it.

How the Auto Harvester 3000 Works

The Auto Harvester 3000 handles the other half of logging: turning felled material into usable trunks. Its trick is batching — you can keep adding stumps to the machine and it will process them into many trunks at once.

There is one hard rule, straight from players who learned it the annoying way: let it finish cutting the current stump before you load more. Dumping a dozen stumps in while it is mid-cut can break the job — “just let it finish cutting it down before you add 12 more or it won’t work,” as one player put it. Feed it in waves, not floods.

A good routine: do a clearing run with your axe, collect stumps, then unload the whole batch at the harvester while your Auto Tree Chopper handles regrowth in parallel.

Hotfix #4: The Speed Doubling

Hotfix #4 (August 11, 2026) doubled auto tree harvester speed — see the patch tracker for the full hotfix history. That is a pure buff to wood income, but it has a side effect most players miss: everything downstream now receives input twice as fast.

After the patch you should:

  • Rebalance your splitters and conveyors so the doubled log flow does not jam the saws behind them.
  • Add a storage bin buffer between harvester output and saw input — surges get absorbed instead of clogging the line.
  • Check saw counts. If one saw handled your pre-patch flow, it is likely undersized now; a second saw on the same infeed also gives you redundancy when a blade needs maintenance.

If your income flatlined after the patch, walk the line backward with the diagnosis routine in the money & automation roadmap.

Layout and Optimization Tips

  • Place harvesters at the tree line, not at the base. The chain runs tree line → harvester/chopper → storage → saw → planer → workbench; long hauls at the front of the chain slow everything.
  • Keep separate lines for exotic wood. Stone, metal, and electric trees process through different machines, so do not merge their logs onto the common-wood conveyor.
  • Travel light. Carrying just your axe and coffee, with everything else in bins, keeps machine input/output flowing through containers where automation can reach it.
  • Mind the special-tree unlock chains. Stone trees famously need no better axe — the dependency runs the other way, with stone wood unlocking the stone axe. Higher axe tiers matter for late biomes, but the harvester line does not remove those unlock chains (verify in-game whether the chopper can farm tree types you have not yet unlocked).

Common Mistakes

  • Overloading the harvester mid-cut — the batch stalls; feed stumps between cycles.
  • Leaving the chopper on the wrong recipe — you come back to 20 minutes of the wrong wood type.
  • Ignoring the post-Hotfix-#4 jam — doubled input with unchanged saws means a backed-up line, not more furniture.
  • Building harvesters before the Work Hall — the option is gated behind base + Work Hall construction.

FAQ

How do I unlock the auto harvester in Chop Chop Inc?

Build your base, then the Work Hall next to the house. All automation machines, including the harvester line, are constructed from there.

Does the Auto Tree Chopper cost resources every cycle?

No. You pay when inserting or switching a recipe; the ~90-second respawn-and-chop loop then runs free indefinitely.

Why did my Auto Harvester 3000 stop working?

Most likely you added new stumps while it was still cutting. Let each cut finish before loading the next batch.

Did Hotfix #4 change harvesters?

Yes — the August 11, 2026 hotfix doubled auto tree harvester speed. Rebalance your splitters and saws afterward so the faster flow does not jam.

Can it harvest stone, metal, or electric trees?

Those trees route through their own processing machines. Note that stone trees need no special axe at all — stone wood is what unlocks the stone axe, not the other way around. Whether the chopper can farm special trees before you finish their unlock chains is unconfirmed (verify in-game).
